Sustainable Roanoke

Since we began serving the needs of the community in November of 2019 and as of November 1, 2021, we have diverted over 17,000 pounds of disposables from the Smith Gap Landfill. We accept items not included in the City recycling program, which we then sort, mail or transport for eventual reuse as raw materials. We actively seek solutions to reduce and eliminate waste, and we educate the public about their role in our non-circular waste stream challenges. In 2021, SR became a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation.

Our mission is to educate, inspire, and empower the community to achieve a sustainable lifestyle by sharing knowledge, increasing awareness, pooling resources, and promoting social equity.
