Volunteer Opportunities The role of the volunteers in the hospital is to assist us in achieving the hospital?s goals which are to provide high quality, cost effective healthcare services and to promote these services in the community. Volunteers achieve these goals by: -Augmenting and expanding the services provided by our staff. -Providing desirable supplemental services which contribute to total patient care and patient satisfaction. -Assisting the non-patient care departments by providing clerical support. -Helping to create and promote an understanding of the hospital and its services in the community. Not only will you make a difference in someone else?s life, you will start to notice the difference that volunteering will make in yours. We offer many opportunities to volunteer on the LewisGale Medical Center campus. Some of the areas that may be of interest to you are: -Manage the information desk, transfer incoming calls to patient rooms and provide directions to visitors and patients. -Deliver newspapers, flowers and mail to patients. -Provide community information and serve beverages and cookies to families in the waiting rooms. -Assist in patient discharge, visit with patients and their family members and run nurse errands. -Assist non-patient departments with clerical support. To become a volunteer, please contact the Volunteer Office at 540-776-4493. All applicants are required to fill out an application and have a formal interview with the Volunteer Services Manager. After acceptance, new volunteers participate in an orientation and on-the-job training with a veteran volunteer. Volunteers are asked to work approximately four hours per week. The shifts are: Monday ? Friday: 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 4 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
