The Bike Kitchen?s goal is to provide transportation to those who are without it and the 19% living below the poverty line in the New River Valley and its corresponding counties. The need for bicycles and transportation is great and the role of The Bike Kitchen is to offer inexpensive bicycles to those who cannot otherwise afford them. Our mission is to improve the lives of the economically disadvantaged in the New River Valley and raise their standards of living. The Bike Kitchen will also utilize a volunteer program where people can work to assemble bicycles from spare parts and in the process earn themselves a free bike. Having transportation can lead to the improvement of many facets of life, especially for those who do not have access to many resources. It can help reduce the cost of food, childcare, housing, healthcare, and provide more opportunities for education. By having a means of transportation, those who live in rural areas and without many options of services, can begin to increase their opportunities of where to shop, apply for jobs, and quality of healthcare, among others. The program will also provide free classes on bicycle riding safety and bicycling with confidence. With your help and generous donations we can provide relief to the people of the New River Valley who most desperately need it. Poverty can strike anyone at any time and we can all make a difference to change it.
