TAP Tax Clinic

Our dedicated tax volunteers have kept the tax clinic going strong for 23 years and we would love for you to join us! The more volunteers we can recruit, the more individuals and families we can serve in Virginia. No accounting or mathematical experience is needed to volunteer. Volunteers are trained by TAP, certified to serve by the IRS, and typically set their own schedules. Additionally, there are a variety of flexible volunteer opportunities including appointment takers and intake coordinators, greeters, screeners, tax preparers, quality reviewers, and more. Training courses for volunteers are delivered online. The training process is smooth, hassle free, and often only takes 3-4 hours of time to become certified. Join the only IRS VITA hub in the area!

Total Action for Progress (TAP) offers a free tax preparation clinic through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, supporting eligible Virginia residents with tax preparation and filing. To qualify, clients must have an annual household income below $69,000 or meet eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). This initiative aims to aid low- to moderate-income households in filing accurately and accessing potential refunds. TAP’s Tax Clinic serves clients in 11 Virginia localities and extends services statewide through the GetYourRefund online platform, ensuring these essential resources are accessible to all qualifying residents.

Our goal is to help them assert themselves as advocates for their own needs. TAP is the second largest non-profit in the state, serving multiple locations with over 20 programs.
