Star City Reads

We're a coalition of 30 community partners, led by the Roanoke Public Libraries. Partners include the Roanoke City Public Schools, CHIP, Mill Mountain Theatre, the Roanoke Police Department, and other great organizations. Our core volunteers are Star City Readers.

Star City Reads is Roanoke's Campaign for Grade-Level Reading initiative. We're working to ensure that all Roanoke kids read proficiently by the end of third grade because kids who miss this benchmark are more likely to drop out of high school and struggle in life.  Our signature program is the volunteer Star City Readers initiative. These volunteers read to classes once a month and distribute books for the children to keep.

*At the moment, we are not seeking any new volunteers. We will begin recruiting volunteers for the 2019-2020 school year over the summer of 2019. Thank you!*
