Join our Kitty Crew at PetSmart and Petco in Roanoke or at our Adoption Center in Rocky Mount.  Sign up for one hour or more per week.  Feed kitties, clean cages, give them some attention and help them get adopted.  

Our flower beds need some tending - primarily Johnson Grass removal! Plus mulch spreading.

Our windows need a polish.

Our floors are in desperate need of stripping and re-waxing. 

New Freedom Farm is looking for volunteers to assist with contact management, newsletter creating, and using desktop publishing applications to design and make posters and other marketing materials for upcoming events. 

Child Care Providers are needed for children while parents are in counseling.  The shift would be 1-2 hours at a time, normally on Tuesday or Thursday. 

Laundry, cleaning instruments, packing packs, supporting med staff, office duties, other help around the clinic

Volunteers are the heart of our hospice. Our Patient Care Volunteers provide practical and emotional support to terminally ill patients and their families. Volunteers may visit a patient weekly or on an as needed basis from 1-4 hours at a time. Volunteers are matched to patients considering proximity and scheduling preferences. Patient care volunteers frequently express what a privilege it is to walk with a family during this special time and how personally rewarding they have found it to be. Our volunteer training provides information about the many aspects of the dying process and the various ways to assist the dying through their end of life journey. Many of our graduates find the training itself a transforming experience. There is no obligation to volunteer upon completion of the training. Volunteer with hospice and expect to receive a gift of great value!

Election Officers perform duties necessary to conduct an election, including verifying the registration status of each voter, directing voters at the polls, completing records and forms related to the elections, and ensuring order at each polling place.

We are seeking people who:

Project Linus chapters rely on financial donations that are used to purchase blanket making supplies and general office supplies needed to run the chapter.

We are looking for 2-3 amazing people who are willing to give 4-8 a month. The volunteer will sit and chat with the patient as their caregiver heads out to run errands or just take a small break. It is a special calling to be one who is willing to give time to the terminally ill.

We need ladies (and guys, too!) who love to paint fingernails! At Friendship Assisted Living, a loving touch goes a long way. If you enjoy the art of painting fingernails, we'll give you some nails to paint.

Our ladies will wait in line for a free manicure, but all we're asking for is a little paint and some good conversation.

We have the supplies, we just need you, the talented artist.

Project Linus accepts NEW, HANDMADE, WASHABLE blankets and afghans of excellent quality and free from contaminates for children ages 0-18. All sizes are accepted.

We are looking for volunteers to assist our Residents who are elderly and/or affected by mental health disorders with cleaning their apartments. Our Residents have low income and cannot afford to pay private housekeeping providers. Some of them do not have anyone to assist them with cleaning and they are unable to do so because of health issues. 

Habitat for Humanity uses volunteers on our construction sites and in our ReStore.  No experience is required for either job.

Center in the Square’s special one-time events and activities volunteers assist with special events and activities such as Greek Fest, Dickens of a Christmas, Microfestivus, First Fridays, etc. and also tasks such as stuffing envelopes for mailings, assisting with attendance counts, or even labeling 6,000 rubber ducks!

One-time volunteers receive emails detailing the date/time and duties of the volunteer assignment. This is probably the easiest way to get involved here at Center in the Square! Staff Center in the Square's atrium desk as an information specialist and cultural ambassador to greet, educate and direct our visitors.

Volunteers are trained to share information about the Center to assist visitors and encourage public support of Center in the Square and our beneficiary organizations. Are you creative? Do you love to write? Help us create some encouraging notes for dialysis patients. There are over 11,000 patients on dialysis in Virginia.  ?Dialysis patients are in kidney failure and must visit the dialysis clinic every other day for several hours until they can receive a transplant. The average transplant wait time is 3-4 years.  It is often exhausting and overwhelming. Here are the steps to get you started:

2. Gather a group or do it as an individual.

3. Get creative! Use preprinted note cards or create your own with construction paper.  Write your own notes or use the sample phrases from the internet. Use crayons or a ball point pen.  How you go about it doesn't matter, as long as it's from the heart.

4. Contact Megan at the NKF office to turn in your cards. There is no required number to make.

At the end of each quarter, NKF will schedule a time to drop off the notes to patients at the clinics. VICAP counselors are specially trained to assist clients with Medicaid and Medicare enrollment, claims filing and decision making about Long Term Care, Medicare supplemental and Prescription Part D insurance. Volunteers provide telephone and face to face counseling using a computer and the internet.

Visit with veteran patients and families recommended and assigned by Hospice of SWVA Volunteer Coordinator.Provide the veteran patient with companionship, interaction, comfort, and provide the caregiver(s) with emotional support.Demonstrates the core values and mission of Hospice SWVA and adopts the Agency mission, strategic direction and project goals.Participate in Veteran patient Pinning Ceremonies and other activities through the We Honor Veterans Program. We serve Veterans in Smyth, Wythe, and Bland Counties in Virginia

The Patient services Volunteer will be responsible for providing patient services support services to patients and their families, to the professional staff, and to the organization.The patient services volunteer will have a special commitment to the patients and families at the most difficult time in their lives.The patient services volunteer will provide essential support in direct patient care, support for family members, office assistance, and many other areas.Patient services volunteers must embody the essence of hospice philosophy, and are essential to the successful operation of any hospice program.Patient services volunteers may choose the area in which they prefer to function and the hours they are willing to donate.The patient services volunteer must possess the abiity to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs.Provide emotional support to patients and familiesProvide practical support to patients and families (including household tasks, cooking, yard work, grocery shopping, etc.)Provide respite for caregivers

Functions as a team member by providing necessary office support to the volunteer coordinator and Hospice office staff. Participates in continuing education and other meetings as needed to perform office duties.Provides assistance to volunteer coordinator in performing office duties including copying, preparing bereavement mailings, cards, and letters to patients and their families. Provide support in answering telephone as requested, copying, filing, and labeling items. Maintains respectful communication wit h patients, families, office staff, and contracting agencies related to hospice services. Communicates directly or via phone with patients, families, physicians, staff, and contracting agencies. Demonstrates effective communication skills and conveys a caring manner to all clients.

Volunteers work to complete a small, one and done task or activity.  Possible spot jobs include: assembling hygiene bags for students, cleaning the van, assembling Winter Break Bags, assisting with food pick up at the Food Bank.

Volunteers assist with CYP's two fundraising events - the Art Show in November and the Oyster Roast in January.  Volunteers can help with event set up and clean up, as well as serving where needed during the actual event.

Volunteers can complete various tasks such as filing, making copies, assisting with mailings, and writing or editing newsletter articles.

Volunteers assist in locating and researching grants.  Volunteers report directly to the Executive Director and tasks may also include writing and editing grant proposals.

Hosts allow CYP students to visit their job site, complete a service project.

CYP hosts a Family Night every month, giving our families a chance to enjoy a meal together.  Family night volunteers assist with preparing, serving, and cleaning up the meal.

Part of what makes CYP unique among other after school programs is we work to overcome barriers that may prevent students from attending our program.  Oftentimes these barriers include a family's lack of transportation.  Drivers help transport some students from program to their home.  Most students live within 2 miles of our site.  Drivers are needed Monday through Friday, and we ask that you commit to one consistent day a week.  Drivers must submit to a Motor Vehicle Records check through the DMV.

Tutors assist students with homework during the school year.  Homework time time is Monday - Thursday, 4:15pm-5:00pm.  Ideally, volunteers commit to one consistent day a week.  Additional activities are available to engage students who may finish their schoolwork early.

Program volunteers can assist in a variety of ways:

Volunteers are needed to deliver hot lunches and smiles to home bound seniors in need of nutrition and a safety check. Routes consist of 12-18 homes and take about 1.5 hours to deliver. We work with all schedules. Volunteers work once per week, once per month and anything in between. It takes 42 volunteers per day to deliver to all 600 clients so we are ALWAYS in need of volunteers!  Can you help?

Volunteer Breast Health Educators complete a 2 1/2 hour training and staff education tables at events held throughout the Virginia Blue Ridge Affiliate 31 city/county service area where they speak with women and men one-on-one about breast health. Trained educators must commit to staffing a minimum of (3) education tables per year. The  Affiliate service area includes the counties of Alleghany, Amherst, Bath, Bedford, Bland, Botetourt, Campbell, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Grayson, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Pulaski,  Roanoke, Rockbridge, and Wythe as well as the cities of Buena Vista, Covington , Danville, Galax, Lexington,  Lynchburg,  Martinsville, Radford, Roanoke,  and Salem.
