Vittles For Vets

Vittles for Vets, founded in 2014, by veterans for veterans, is a 501 C-3 registered non-profit charity whose mission is to improve the nutritional health of veterans in our area living at or below the poverty level.  Vittles receives support from charitable organizations, local community members, and corporate sponsorship.  95% of all money raised goes directly toward veterans. There are currently over 75 veterans and families enrolled in the Vittles for Vets program.   At an annual cost of $2,600 per veteran, the projected operating cost for the fiscal year 2020 exceeds $169,000.00.

We issue $50.00 food gift cards on a weekly basis to qualifying veterans, enabling them to purchase healthy food items of their own choosing. All card recipients are vetted through an agency affiliated with the Salem VA Medical Center. Acceptance into the Vittles program is based on income, discharge status and lifestyle. To remain eligible, participants must be drug and alcohol free and have no criminal convictions. Membership is granted on an annual basis with the goal of helping the veteran until such time as they get back on his or her feet financially.
