Who We Are

The Salvation Army of Roanoke Corps is a welcoming place of love and acceptance. Located in the former Belmont elementary school, the building has administrative offices, classrooms, a gym, a full-service kitchen and a cafeteria. Our Corps administrative office is open Monday-Friday and its Chapel is open Sunday for Church at 10:45am. We hold weekly activities at the Corps, including worship services, Troops (youth character-building program), adult educational classes, a community art group, and “Seniors with Spirit” (Seniors Program), depending on the time of year. The large gym is used for Salvation Army programs and rentals. Across from this building, you will find the Salvation Army’s community garden, where neighbors lovingly tend to their vegetable gardens. The Family Thrift Store is located at 5511 Williamson Rd and open Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm. Proceeds go to supporting our Turning Point shelter and Corps programs. The Pathway of Hope initiative, which seeks to break the cycle of inter-generational poverty, is housed in close proximity to our Corps, as is crisis case management services and seasonal programs like Angel Tree. The Turning Point is the area’s only secure center for survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking in the Roanoke Valley. Its location is undisclosed, and is a national award-winning program that practices trauma-informed care for clients and their children. Due to the nature of this program, there is a separate volunteer training around the issues of domestic violence.
