

Who We Are
Since 1948, the Rescue Mission has continued a tradition of comprehensive care to those in crisis in our community. The homeless, the hungry, the chemically addicted, the impoverished and the hopeless have all found a warm welcome at the Rescue Mission. Men, women, and children have found a safe place and compassionate friends in their darkest moments. Since its humble beginnings, the Rescue Mission has grown to be the largest homeless shelter in Virginia. With help from over 5,000 volunteers, it has consistently served all people in need regardless of race, gender, creed, age or ethnicity.
What We Do
Rescue Mission services include: hospitality dining room; emergency shelter; clothing assistance; medical, psychiatric, dental and vision care; a residential recovery program; an adult education center; a legal clinic, case management services and, specifically for children both after school activities during the school year and Jubilee Acres Day Camp during the summer.
