Who We Are

Mission: Restoration Housing's mission is to create and assist in development projects with a focus on historic preservation of architectural resources. Projects are intended to both address the needs of limited income families and to strengthen the community by reducing blight and vacancy. Values: Restoration Housing's values are three-fold. 1) Dignity: All people, regardless of their circumstances, deserve to live in a comfortable and well-maintained environment. 2) Excellence: Consistently strive for excellence in the outcomes of projects, environmental awareness, intellectual accomplishments, and business conduct. 3) Community: Strive to promote an appreciation for the history and integrity of a neighborhood and its surrounding community. All work should reflect the desire for a better social and cultural environment for future generations. Founded in 2014, Restoration Housing (RH) is the only nonprofit, historic tax credit affordable housing developer in the Roanoke region. Utilizing a business model that combines historic tax credits, in-house schematic drafting, tax credit syndication, and construction management, RH is deeply committed and uniquely positioned to support preservation, affordable rental housing, and neighborhood revitalization to strengthen families and communities. Accomplishments to date include completed renovation project on Day Avenue providing housing for two limited-income families; renovation project on Patterson Avenue underway with a November 2017 completion date; and acquisition of Villa Heights from the City of Roanoke launching collaborative effort to provide rental options for a local nonprofit.

What We Do

Restoration Housing (RH) is a non-profit with a focus on historic preservation of architectural resources for the social benefit of low income communities. Restoration Housing’s main objective is to help low to moderate income, hardworking adults provide safe, secure, comfortable homes for themselves and their children through the redevelopment of existing buildings within Roanoke’s Historic Districts. This not only benefits the family in question, but supports healthy, sustainable neighborhoods by reducing blight and vacancy which increases property values and deters vandalism and crime. Restoration Housing also undertakes community impact projects which provide affordable rental options for nonprofit organizations seeking to expand services in low to moderate income neighborhoods as well as providing consulting services to mission-minded developers, nonprofits, and government entities.
